Letter From the Chief

Thank you for visiting our website!

Like many of our visitors, you may be wondering what Student Emergency Medical Services does. SEMS is a student-run organization with the mission of providing emergency, pre-hospital medical care to the students, staff, faculty, and visitors of the ASU campus community. Our mission is two-fold:

All of our care-providing members are Emergency Medical Technicians who are trained and registered with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and the State of Arizona Department of Health Services, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. This is the same level of certification held by EMT-Basics on fire engines and ambulances throughout the State of Arizona. We conduct regular training to ensure that the EMTs providing care to the ASU community are held to the highest standards, and maintain a membership with the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation (NCEMSF). The NCEMSF is the only national-level organization that exists to foster communication and cooperation between collegiate EMS groups. Through these and many other objectives we aim to provide the absolute best service possible.

I certainly hope that if we ever meet, whether at an event for which we are providing standby coverage or because you call 911 for help, you will agree that SEMS at ASU sets the bar in collegiate EMS care.

Respectfully,

Sean P. McMullen
Chief of Student EMS
